“It eased our burden to be able to follow her care on the portal through the day and night when we couldn’t be there.”
Technology
At Heartlands Care, we believe that technology, applied correctly with due concern for security and privacy, can have massive benefits for you, your relatives and our staff.
In recent years, we have invested considerable sums of money in some of the latest and most effective technology to help us provide the highest level of care. Our use of digital systems plays an important role in improving your safety and quality of life. As these systems help improve efficiency by removing paperwork, it also means that our staff can devote more time to what they do best: providing excellent personal care and building genuine relationships with you.
Technology is not “a necessary evil,” as one large care group recently said on record. We see it as a tool that empowers our teams to spend more quality time connecting with you on a human level. We also use the data to be very proactive (rather than reactive), so identifying trends and issues and continuously improving and adapting the care we provide uniquely to you. We believe that this is a major difference between ourselves and many other providers and enables us to provide demonstrably safer, higher-quality care.
At all Heartlands Care, we provide digital connectivity for all our residents. You can communicate with your loved ones whenever you choose by voice and video, especially if meeting them in person is difficult. The technology in our care homes makes this possible.

Needless to say, we take care of the technical side of things behind the scenes and our team helps you use the technology appropriate for you.

High bandwidth internet
We use high bandwidth internet, typically fibre-based, throughout our care homes. This enables us to achieve a greater data transfer rate at speeds of typically more than 100mbps both upstream and downstream. A faster connection is fundamental in our use of digital systems, connectivity, and entertainment for you.
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi can be accessed throughout our care homes, in communal areas and in each bedroom.
Using Wi-Fi enables you to have immediate access to:
- Amazon Alexa
- TV & movies on demand
- Voice over Internet Telephone (VoIP)
- Video communications with relatives and friends
- Internet browsing using your own devices
Your relatives have the same access to Wi-Fi when they visit and our staff benefit from phone access as well as the use of IT, care monitoring and advanced nurse call applications throughout the care home.
VoIP phones
By implementing VoIP enabled phones, we are future proofing our care homes for BT’s ISDN switch off coming in 2027, which will mean that all voice calls are already being made over the internet.
Family Portal
The Family Portal is an extension to Nourish that allows your family to monitor the progress of your care in real-time and view your individual care plan.
Online visit booking application
Visitors are welcome at any time, but we provide an online visitor booking system to make it easier for your family members to arrange a visit.

Nourish Digital Care Management System
The Nourish Digital Care Management System is a market-leading cloud-based software application that enables us to manage and coordinate your care.
Camascope
Camascope is an advanced electronic medication administration and recording system.
Blaucom Nurse Call
Blaucom nurse call is a communication system that interfaces with the existing nurse call system.
Moving forward with technology
It is clear that the advanced use of technology in our care homes is having a huge positive impact on both residents’ life and the way that staff can deliver care.
Whether it be through increased independence and empowerment, enhanced entertainment, earlier intervention of health concerns, or more effective communication between you, your family members and carers, the benefits are immeasurable.
But technology never replaces the human touch. It simply gives our staff more time to spend with you, getting to know you, building genuine relationships, and ensuring each day is meaningful.
